Easily recognizable by its golden color, brass is an alloy of copper and zinc. Flexible and versatile, it can be worked into countless shapes and textures. This lustrous metal can be cast, using the lost cast waxing method or the sand-casting method, hammered thin or twisted into wire. Whatever the treatment, the result is shining perfection. Many of our cabinets, beds, cocktail tables, occasional tables, screens and wall panels feature sheets or insets of brass that have been engraved or embossed with eye-catching decorative designs. Run your fingers lightly along the surface to feel the difference between the two techniques. Using a process that dates to 1400s Europe, engraved brass is made with acid that etches the surface, creating lovely decorative patterns. Brass is embossed by hammering the metal from the back in order to raise a decorative, bas relief design on the front, giving it a unique appeal you’ll want for your home. |
