Discovered in antiquity by the Greeks and Romans, lost wax casting remains the preferred process of modern day jewelers, sculptors and artisans for crafting custom art objects in metal.
The process begins when our craftsman meticulously carves a wax model of the object and envelops it in fine concrete, which captures every curve and line of the piece. Once this mold is dry, the craftsman fills it with molten metal, such as bronze or brass. The wax model melts and drains out, or is “lost,” through a hole in the concrete. When cool, the mold is cracked open to reveal a finely cast metal object identical to its wax predecessor. Meticulous details are added before the piece is polished. Finally, the artist skillfully applies a custom finish by hand. With lost cast waxing, artisans can create decorative objects, hardware and mountings without compromise.
