 Early American Puritans furnished their homes with simple, durable oak. However, by the late 17th century, walnut had become fashionable across the Atlantic in European courts of royalty and homes of noblemen. Americans quickly embraced this delicate, burled, fine-grained wood as well. They perfected the then-flourishing art of veneering using saws and new technology.  Thin layers of walnut were used to transform plain, angular oak furniture into softer, more decorative pieces influenced by Dutch furniture makers. Today, this dense, rich-looking wood will only gain value as it becomes increasingly rare. The walnut veneered pieces in the Colorado Style® collection will become prized heirlooms.
