Why is the furniture I have ordered taking so long to arrive?
At Colorado Style Home Furnishings, our goal is to deliver only the best customer experience for each and every customer. To begin, the most obvious reason behind our challenges: COVID-19. This worldwide pandemic has created havoc on many industries across the globe from toilet paper and cleaning supplies to lumber, glue and foam. Shortages on materials such as acrylic and steel have create chaos for many industries. These are unprecedented times. Yes, we have all heard it over and over since the pandemic began but with unprecedented times comes challenges that are out of our control. Across the entire furniture industry, it has become almost impossible to answer how long a special order will take to be completed since there are many factors involved, BUT we can address the question of WHY…
BACK-LOGGED FACTORIES. As with many industries around the world, many furniture factories closed down and stopped production during the COVID shut downs in 2020. No work was done for several weeks or even months, creating a large amount of back-logged orders at factories across the industry. The shut downs were done to protect furniture craftsman and others workers assembling furniture, where many hands touch one piece of furniture from start to finish during the process of making handcrafted items.
FURNITURE DEMAND: As we all experienced, stay at home orders across the world resulted in everyone spending all their time at home. Spending considerably more time at home resulted in individuals taking action to create a more beautiful home or realizing it was time to replace that uncomfortable sofa that was being put off for the last few years. Families were not travelling or going on vacation, so those funds were being spent on improving or upgrading their homes.
SUPPLY CHAINS ISSUES: As many of us have discovered since the pandemic started, many stores are out of significant items. Supply shortages are an issue across almost every industry. We have all witnessed this when visiting grocery stores or hardware stores with empty shelves and unstocked warehouses. Furniture manufacturers are also having difficulty getting raw materials and other supplies they need in order to make your custom order. Overwhelmed factories, shipping issues, difficulty hiring staff and clogged ports are all contributing to months-long delays in every step of the supply chain. Across the country, this is an industry wide problem during a time when there is a surging demand for home furnishings and home office furniture.
FOAM SHORTAGE: Beyond the pandemic, our country also endured devastating weather issues over the last year. In February 2021, Texas experienced a historical deep freeze which devastated many families and businesses. During this time, chemical plants that provide essential components in foam production were halted for an extended period of time. One of the main components that are needed for sofas, chair cushions and more - FOAM – and there is currently a foam shortage which has affected the production of many furniture manufacturers. One missing component results in stopped production and delayed delivery for your special order.

PREVENT FRUSTRATION WITH REALISTIC EXPECTATIONS: The world has changed a lot since the pandemic began. When it comes to furniture shopping, home remodels, landscaping, building a deck or shopping for general household goods it will be a slower process than we have become accustomed to. These items will take longer than they have in the past so understanding the current situation will prevent frustration and aggravation. Realize that a predicted delivery date is just that…a prediction, not a guarantee.
IF YOU LOVE IT, ORDER IT: Unfortunately, the challenges that the furniture industry is experiencing right now may get worse before it gets better. Due to the demand on furniture right now, the back-log may only get bigger so if you love a piece of furniture, order it now!
